Welcome to our new programme. We are proud to present the very finest of recent film releases - from Columbia to Japan and from Europe to Chile. Much of it is award-winning. As always, we have some new and, in various ways, challenging cinema but we combine this with some more traditional entertainment.

The quality of story, humanity, cinematic skill and critical acclaim are, as ever, our criteria. After the success of last year's French festival, we present a festival of British New Wave films from the late 50s to the early 60s, made by some of our most important and celebrated film-makers. Our Christmas film is the light-hearted and magical Café Society from Woody Allen.

We hope that you will want to see these marvellous films as they were intended – on the cinema screen, where they can be seen with all their magic and atmosphere. All the films selected have been seen by at least one member of the committee, most by more than one. We regularly attend weekend screenings of films before their general release, so we can book the very latest material. There has been passionate debate between us on some of the films but we heartily commend to you the whole programme.

As ever, we also thank the management and staff of the Playhouse Cinema in Louth. We are one of Britain’s luckiest film societies to have such an amenable and friendly venue.
